Norway

In 2006 Norway was one of the first countries to develop a national action plan on women, peace and security to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1325 with related resolutions, and also the broader women, peace and security (WPS) agenda. Six Norwegian ministries are united in the action plan.

The action plan emphasizes the need to integrate the women, peace and security agenda into national defence and security work, taking both environmental and technology into account. This has been highlighted by the war in Ukraine. Strengthening the work on WPS systematically is aimed to ensure that Norwegian troops have sufficient insight into the differing security needs of women, men and minorities in war and conflict, and understanding how these influence the way we should carry out our missions both at home and abroad.

The Norwegian Armed Forces operationalizes the national action plan on WPS through two complementary action plans; the action plan on gender in military operations (GMO), and the action plan on equality and diversity.
